Oneija Taher

Solicitor

Oneija is a newly qualified Solicitor, who trained with Paul Harris.

Oneija joined Edward Fail, Bradshaw & Waterson in August 2019. She has defended clients at the police station for all types of offences and has represented clients in interview for the most serious of offences, including Human Trafficking, Robbery, Rape, Grievous Bodily Harm, Cultivation of Cannabis and Kidnap.  Oneija regularly assists in the preparation of complex Crown Court work, including cases of Murder, high-value Fraud, Firearm offences, historical sexual abuse, multi-handed drug conspiracies and serious violence.

Oneija has recently been involved in the extensive preparation of some of the successful and widely-publicised Appeals in Hamilton & Others v Post Office Ltd [2021] EWCA Crim 577, better known as the ‘Post Office Scandal’ involving private prosecutions based on the Post Office’s own error-riddled software. The cases have been described as some of the greatest miscarriages of justice to date.

Oneija has a keen interest in Youth Justice, in particular cases concerning the Section 45 defence under the Modern Slavery Act 2015, especially in ‘County Lines’ cases. Following the completion of her Training Contract she seeks to specialise in Youth Court Advocacy, working in cohesion with multiple agencies to ensure the most favourable approach is adopted in Youth cases.

Prior to joining the firm, Oneija worked as a Prison Law Paralegal. Due to her experience of Parole Board hearings, she is able to identify from the outset the likelihood of a client’s recall to prison if arrested whilst on Licence
